How long must you keep tax records in New Zealand

You should keep your records for at least seven years after the year that they cover and the IRD may request to see these records at any time during that period.

You may be asked in exceptional circumstances to provide records beyond this period however this would be unusual and would need some justification as to why they are required should you still have them.

Failure to produce the records may expose you to re-assessment and penalties!
