He arrived at the DSA Christmas
lunch not expecting anything more that to be representative of
the DSAA at the event. However a short while after the lunch
began, the current President Dermot Kelly rose to speak and announced
that a new life member would be announced to add to that of Stewart
Stein and Ross Ruff.
With that Les Dell was surprised
to find that it was his bio that was being read out and he was
the newest life member for the New Zealand DSA. Les was already
a life member in Australia so perhaps did not expect a similar
honour to be bestoed in New Zealand as well.
As a foundation member of the
DSA Les was intrumental in the setting up and establishment of
the DSA in New Zealand and did the hard yards to establish the
credibility of the DSA with polititians and the consumer lobby
alike until well into the mid 1980's when new roles called to
him. That was not the end to his link with New Zealand however
and in his later roles with the DSAA he spent much time addressing
legal issues in New Zealand over the years and working closely
with the New Zealand DSA in a range of areas.
